Born in Detroit, Michigan, Daniel Zemke moved from state-to-state every few years due to his father’s success as a CEO in the computer industry. He eventually settled in Boulder, Colorado for high school where he gained his passion for the mountains and the recreation amenities offered there. A 1991 graduate of the University of San Francisco, Daniel holds a Bachelor’s degree in American History. Shortly thereafter he moved overseas to teach English to Japanese middle school students as a member of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) where he studied the language and culture. His love of foreign culture has led to travel in over 35 countries on five continents.
In 1997 Daniel earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Stanford University. He taught high school for 7 years in Santa Clara, California and St. Louis, Missouri. He was twice nominated teacher of the year and coached high school football, speech and debate and mock trial programs. It was here that he learned to love the power of oratory and persuasion and importance of thinking on one’s feet.
In 2004, Daniel earned his Juris Doctorate from The University of Tulsa College of Law where he was Managing Editor of the Tulsa Journal of Comparative and International Law and competed on the American Trial Lawyers Association competition team winning awards in many advocacy competitions. Daniel began his legal career as a Legal Fellow with the University of Tulsa College of Law Boesche Legal Clinic, teaching students in the practice of Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate. He has worked in private firms in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Telluride, Colorado focusing on Real Estate, Family Law, Corporate Law and general litigation. He served as an executive with the Telluride Ski Resort as General Counsel and managed all aspects of real estate practice, risk management, transactional matters, and managed defense litigation matters for the resort. He is licensed to practice law in Oklahoma and Colorado.
Daniel has served with professional associations and boards including the Young Lawyers Division of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Telluride Mountain Village Owner’s Association. He is also an active member of Colorado and Oklahoma Bar Associations. He provides pro bono legal services to the San Miguel Resource Center, an organization serving victims of domestic violence, The Telluride AIDS Benefit, an educational organization bringing AIDS awareness education to Colorado and Africa, and One-to-One Telluride, a teen mentoring program in San Miguel County. In 2013 he was named honored to be named Professional of the Year by the San Miguel Resource Center for his efforts to the organization.
Daniel loves living in Telluride, Colorado where he enjoys all forms of outdoor activity including skiing, ice hockey, fly-fishing, mountain biking and spending time with with his wife and two children. He also loves to cook and believes his oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are better than any other on Earth.
